THE STORY SO FAR

The Resolute Love Project seeks to strengthen communities of care for young people, and we’re glad to partner with Woodvale Baptist Church in expressing this heart in Perth’s northern suburbs.

After presenting two pilot seminars under the Resolute Love banner at WBC in February and July (‘Getting Through’, then ‘Re-Imagine Graceland’), we are now taking the next step in partnership for this project.

THE NEXT STEP

In response to the encouraging feedback so far, we’re planning to present another opportunity to engage with the seminar content, but with more time and space for personal reflection and implementation.

INTERESTED?

Your participation might include a portion of the weekend’s program, or all of the sessions.

Whatever your involvement, our hope is for you to feel better equipped to support your young person in their mental health journey, and clearer in your ability to answer the question:

“What does love look like today?”

THE PLAN:

We are pleased to provide the opportunity to engage with our ‘lived experience learning’ content across the weekend - facilitated by our project host: Trav Johnson.

You can participate either as a full-time or part-time delegate.

THE SESSION PLAN IS:

  • FRIDAY EVENING: Resolute Love info session.  This is a free event for anyone who might be interested to know more about the project.

  • SATURDAY MORNING: ‘Re-Imagine Graceland’ seminar*, for parents or carers seeking to respond to misunderstanding and stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

  • SATURDAY AFTERNOON: ‘Getting Through’ seminar* and a new session called ‘Intercept’ — for parents or carers seeking to improve communication with those navigating mental health struggles.

  • SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Resolute Love Workshop** — providing an opportunity for seminar participants to implement their learnings into their context for care.

* Seminars are delivered with minimal expectation of participant interaction.  While tailored for household carers, our seminar content is relevant for people in a variety of caregiving roles.

**Workshops are facilitated at the pace of the participant’s voluntary interaction.

TRAV JOHNSON

PROJECT HOST (BMin; Grad Cert in Mental Health; Accredited MHFAider®)

After over three decades of Christian work (as a volunteer, then Pastor, then leader of two youth ministry organisations) Trav — with his wife Pixi — recognise their greatest achievement has been learning from and loving their four adult children.  Relationship ups and downs, social anxiety, emotional dysregulation, deep grief, depression, and suicide ideation have all been a part of their landscape for learning.

In the midst of all the hard things, family life continues to be the most exhilarating, fun-filled, and rewarding experience that is birthing the Resolute Love Project.
